Hmm, not too many. Mine is fairly stock.

https://github.com/kennethreitz/osx-gcc-installer -- which I was just introduced to recently, versus downloading XCode if you need it. Default python and ruby are reasonably up to date, so I don't really bother with homebrew or other ways of compiling software for it. Actually I plan do most of my development stuff inside VMware Fusion. I can't remember how well VirtualBox works or not, it seems Parallels has fallen out of favor. I've bricked a Mac following Fedora's dual boot instructions before, so I'd rather run Linux virtualized. Bootcamp works pretty well for dual booting windows.

iTerm2 is a little better than the stock terminal, and both respond better if you go into preferences and increase the key repeat rate.

ElectricSheep makes a decent screensaver (it's been available for Linux anyway)

Chrome is probably the fastest web browser.

Time Machine (part of the OS) is pretty decent for backups as you can easily restore from a Time Machine backup in the installers.

I'm Looking at Textual for IRC, Colloquoy and XChat Aqua are both free.

I don't bother with editors, vim is good enough :) Textmate (not free) feels rather incomplete to me.

Yeah, Sparrow and Twitter both turn blue in the task bar if they have new content and they both do growl. I have that turned off though. I don't think Reeder does growl, but I'm not sure I'd want it to.

Trying out Textual for IRC since I don't like XChat Aqua or Colliquoy that much.

Alfred's basically like Quicksilver, just maybe a bit better and actively developed.

Full screen apps in Lion is nice for the air, anyway, and it seems faster, though not much is hugely different. I like the Misson Control gesture shortcuts and so forth, it's more useful than Expose. But yeah, not hugely different.

I've found this Gmail Labs feature saves me plenty of time I would otherwise have to switch back to the Gmail tab: http://downloadsquad.switched.com/2011/01/25/gmail-labs-adds-unread-message-count-icon-in-browser-tabs/

Do these apps take advantage of Growl notifications? For the moment I'm stuck on 10.5 (just haven't felt like reinstalling/reconfiguring all of the apps, libraries, tools, etc. yet), so I haven't had a chance to try Sparrow or Alfred myself.

HI,
This might not be related to your post (great one, btw). I am in the process of merging a trunk code to the branch, and observe a different set of conflicts when I use svn 1.7.1 as compared to an earlier version of svn (1.5.x ). Do you have any idea what might be the matter?

Thanks..

Hello Michael,

Great to know about you. I'm noting that you didn't write code anymore to cobbler and koan projects.

I hope that you have a great time in your new endeavor.

Best regards,

PS: I was a user of the Cobbler's mailing list and I interacted a few times with you. :-)
