Oh Compile, All Ye Faithful

Posted: December 23, 2009 in Uncategorized

Sometimes you get brilliant ideas while driving home in the car. Once I gained a 200x performance increase in some critical path code. Once I solved the Poincare Conjecture (but decided not to publish it). Other days, you come up with yet another idea for yet another Software Christmas Carol. Today it was one of those days.

I spent like 10 minutes on this one. You can tell.

Oh, compile, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant!
Oh, compile ye, oh, compile ye to run them;
Compile and debug them
Born from semi-co-lons:
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Compile, the Source.

Highest, most holy,
Code from git eternal,
Born of g-c-cee-ee,
A Dot Out forth comes
Wait a little longer
In office chairs a’jousting!
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Compile the Source.

Make, GNU (not Unix)
Compiler incantations,
Link! all ye libraries that I love!
Life be to Code
(All you ones and zeroes)
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Compile The Source.

Chmod +x we anoint thee,
Now gpg we go a-signing;
Now, to thee be web uploaded!
Word and Double Word,
Application appearing!
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Oh, come, let us debug them,
Compile … the … Source …
