You Want The Func

Posted: September 28, 2007 by mpdehaan in Uncategorized

Today several of us crazy Python hacker types released Func, which is a new system of securely commanding, scripting, and controlling a large number of Linux systems — it’s still pretty early on, but we’re excited about it. Mainly excited because it was designed, developed, and released in just two weeks.

You can do things like “func *.example.org service restart http” and send commands out to all your machines (or a set of them). From Python, you can do the same thing, treating all machines as a collective.

For more information, see https://hosted.fedoraproject.org/projects/func/.

There’s plenty of room for others to get engaged in the project, it’s still young, and there’s a lot of exciting ways in which it could be expanded or leveraged by other projects. Stop by the Wiki, join the mailing list, or join #func on freenode if you like — we’d be glad to hear from you.
